On behalf of the ACUHO-I Small College & University Network, you and your staff are personally invited to participate in the 2023 Small College & University Symposium. This half-day virtual event will be a valuable and affordable professional development opportunity that speaks specifically to the small campus experience. We understand how time and budget restraints can limit professional development opportunities for smaller housing departments. That's why we've worked to make the registration fees affordable and craft an agenda that speaks to important issues. Individual registration fees are $30 for ACUHO-I members. But for only $120 you can use the team pass and register as many of your staff members as you like! We have heard from several campuses who are taking advantage of that option to bring their team together and learn as a collective unit. The program will kickoff with Dr. Jason Lynch, a scholar-practitioner whose work has focused on staff well-being, workplace trauma, and trauma-informed leadership. On top of all his other work, he has spent the last year serving as the editor of a theme issue of the ACUHO-I Journal of College & University Student Housing that focuses on staff well-being.
We also will call upon the expertise of housing professionals who understand the small campus experience. A number of volunteers will be part of panel discussions that will share insight and fresh ideas on the topics of diversity and inclusion, hiring and retention, and communication strategies.
Finally, we will wrap the day up with a discussion with Dr. Carolyn Livingston, an editor of the new book Small and Mighty: Student Affairs at Small Colleges & Universities.
