    Hello

    We have been asked to evaluate our current department/office structure in terms of RAs and Professional Staff. We have 1700 beds on campus, with a Director and Assistant Director of Residence Life, 4 live in Hall Directors and 45 RAs.  If you have a similar bed capacity on your campus, would you share your staffing structure? Also wondering if you have Senior RA roles on your campus and how those fit into your overall structure.  Thanks!

    Hi Molly - 

    I am at a slightly smaller school and am happy to share context with you. We are at 800 beds/15 RAs and four community directors (senior RA) but growing to 1200 in the fall. In the fall, we will have 2 live-in staff coordinators and 1 ops coordinator that report up to me. We do utilize a senior RA position, called a community director, that serves in a role similar to a graduate assistant without supervisory roles. They are on call for a week at a time, the RA's call up to them when incidents arise that are above their level to manage, and they are the ones who respond to the scene first and call up to our on call professional staff if additional support is needed.     Hi Molly - 
    Occidental has a similar number of beds. Our residential staff includes the following currently: 

    • 52 Resident Advisors
    • 4 Masters-Level Resident Directors (10.5 mth contract)
    • 1 Assistant Director of Residential Education
    • 1 Associate Director of Housing Operations
    • 1 Assistant Dean/Director 

    I also supervise an Assistant Director of Student Conduct who sits within our department, as the majority of our conduct issues are residential.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi, Molly,

    Centre College in KY has about 1350 beds, 50 Resident Assistants, 5 Residence Directors (which is a student RD role and is a cross between a Sr. RA and an RD), 1 Assistant Director, 1 Associate Director and 1 Director.  We have about 40 residential facilities across our campus, including our fraternity and sorority houses, which have house managers who are members of the org, but no RA.
